to Feb 28th. in the Board Room – ‘The Fabric of Freedom’. During the time of the Underground Railroad, certain Freedom quilt blocks were said to be employed to communicate directional and safe passage information to fugitive slaves who were seeking freedom in Canada. Denise Brown’s Fabric of Freedom collection includes 19 square watercolour images to honour the quiet revolution that was the Underground Railroad. Propelled by many, it was made famous by Harriet Tubman who made 19 trips to and from the deep south, guiding some 300 captives on the six week journey north to St. Catherines, Ontario.
