Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden AGM

Due to COVID19 safety protocols, advance registration is required. If space allows, the meeting will be held in the Pavilion, 5941 Mason Road, Sechelt. The location may change if demand exceeds safe facility limits.

Shady Hazel Farm Pumpkin Patch

Open every weekend in October, 10am-4pm.

We have been working with our local BC health representative to come up with a plan that keeps us all safe & healthy & having fun. So a few things to consider on your visit :
*Please pay attention to pumpkin markers and be conscious of social distancing while in the patch
*We have provided plenty of sanitizer stations and a contact tracing form to fill out when you arrive at the patch
*Masks are encouraged

 

One Straw Learning Series: Putting Gardens to Sleep

and … Everything Garlic … good fall/winger garlic lesson. Instructor Stephanie Grindon. Please bring your own hand shovel/trowel and if you are so inclined, a bag of mulching materials (leaves, straw, seaweed ect.), Workshop spots are limited, so sign up and prepayment is necessary! Physical distancing and other protocols will be in effect.

Community Apple Pressing

Do you have an overloaded apple tree and don’t know what to do with it? We’re busting out our apple press. You can bring apples & a container and keep the juice or you can donate it to use in a community batch of cider! Donate 50 pounds or more and we will save a growler for you when it’s ready!

Weekly Plant Sale

Tuesdays to Sept 29. We have loads of great choices for fall planting. Park in the Volunteer lot and please follow safe distancing in the sale area. Credit card or cheque preferred for payment.

Eucalyptus & Air Plant Swag Workshop

We provide everything you need to create your own masterpiece. Using eucalyptus, air plants, seasonal decor and dried flowers from the garden centre.
There’s no fees for instruction — you’ll just have to cover the cost of plants and materials (starting around $75). There’s a $10 deposit to reserve your spot, which we’ll deduct from your purchases on the day of the class. Please, no outside plant material— we’ve got everything you need right here at the greenhouse.Limit of 6 seats per workshop. COVID protocals in place for everyone’s safety.

PR – Fall & Winter Gardening Workshop

Join Cathy Ickringill, our Nursery Manager as she shares her knowledge behind the what, where, when and how to be a successful winter gardener. Seating is limited so register early by either popping into Mother Nature or call 604-485-9878. Cost is $20. The workshop will be held in the Nursery to allow for 6ft Social Distancing. We encourage wearing masks however as at this time it’s not mandated

Winter Gardening Workshop

We’ve been talking a lot about winter crops lately, because now’s the time to be planning and planting for a winter market garden for your farm stand, or family table! Join instructor Katy Latham for an afternoon of hands-on demonstrations and practical knowledge and skills. This is a Level 1 course.

SC Botanical Gardens Last Chance Plant Sale

from 1 – 3 pm. Our volunteers have put off their summer break to have one final plant sale this summer. Great selection, terrific prices, and expert advice all on offer. Park in the Volunteer lot (watch for the sign) and shop til you drop. Credit card or cheque preferred for payment. Please practice safe distancing from volunteers and fellow shoppers. Huge Botanical Plant Sale – CANCELLED

This is the big one! Choose from hundreds of small trees, shrubs, and perennials at great prices. Master Gardeners will be onsite to offer expert advice for choosing the best plants for your home garden. Savvy shoppers will bring along a tote or barrow to fill to the brim. Check our website the week before the sale for an extensive availability list.

Planning Your 12-month Garden – CANCELLED

Linda Gilkeson can harvest something fresh from her garden every day of the year! How does she do it? It starts with the planning. It’s hard to imagine planting for winter when it’s still spring, but that’s when it starts. Learn how to manage your garden to maximize production and to grow fresh food all year long. No pre-registration required, admission by donation (suggested $15).

SSCFI AGM & Grafting Workshop – CANCELLED

Ffeatures a workshop on grafting fruit trees by local fruit tree expert Joan Fletcher. If you would like to practice with your own scion wood please bring along a grafting knife and grafting tape (Parafilm is recommended). These can be purchased from your local garden store.

It’s a 25 year Coast tradition, and a free community event to celebrate and learn about food, gardening, seed saving, and all things green, leafy, fruity, or yummy!

Gwen Odermatt speaks at the Sechelt Garden Club

The Sechelt Garden Club is presenting speaker and Master Gardener Gwen Odermatt at our regular monthly garden club meeting $5 for non members. She will be speaking on Great Plant Picks for the Coast.
For the last 20 years Gwen has operated Petals and Butterflies, a farm nursery In Surrey that specializes in growing plants that attract butterflies and other beneficial wildlife. She is an instructor in the Master Gardener Program and is on the selection committee for Great Plant Picks.
