Opportunity: Beautiful Mess: the joyful & random discovery of the artistic process

Deadline July 15: Every artist has had one: “a bad art day” – nothing works in the studio – you’ve just made a mess . . . A Beautiful Mess.
This exhibition will allow the public access to the usually private process of creation, and allows a rare opportunity of peeking behind the curtain so to speak, beyond the final piece of art.
FibreWorks is calling for applications to a curated exhibit exploring works that have been born of “happy accidents”. This will be a juried exhibit. We want all corners of the world and all fibre art mediums to be represented in this show.

Kids Summer Camp: The Magic of Weaving with Jess Silvey

Join artist Jessica Silvey for an introduction to weaving with various materials including cedar. You will have a chance to weave a bracelet and a mat, and to learn how materials are harvested and prepared. Jess is a self-taught weaver of Coast Salish and Portugese descent, of the Silvey Family of Egmont, BC. Many of her childhood hours were spent with her paternal Grandmother in the forest. It is her favourite place to be, surrounded by cedar trees and silence. She has learned traditional techniques from research as well as trial and error. She harvests and prepares many of her own materials.
